Rustic Organic Design meets Gustavian Style

My latest design project is a complete home for the Woodward’s.  They are a young couple who will be adopting their first child in the near future.  They are both very busy and are looking forward to renovating their home so it will be more functional for their new family as well as easier to live in.
They live in a lovely 2100 square foot, 2 bedroom, 2 bath home that was built in 1932.  They have challenged me to make their home more functional by adding an additional bedroom, laundry room and double garage to the existing space.  They love their neighborhood and hope to live here for the rest of their lives, so making it more accessible so they can age in place is also a major consideration.  By opening up the original part of the house it will have a more modern feel as well as being more handicapped (and baby) friendly.

An open floor plan creates easy accessibility and sight lines.

After the construction of their new space is complete they would love the interior to have a comfortable Rustic Organic design with touches of Gustavian style.  Both of these styles lend to an easier, simpler way of life.  Rustic Organic combines a pared-down natural look with all the modern conveniences of today hidden away.  Gustavian is a style created in the 1780’s in Sweden that incorporates French Neoclassical and Italian Classicism into a simpler style that uses grayed pastels, light colors, clean lines and fabulous lighting.

Rustic Organic combines natural elements with modern conveniences.

Gustavian Style incorporates light colored woods and simple shapes.
I believe by pairing these two styles together it will create a fabulous home that this growing family can feel comfortable using and living in for many years to come.

This kitchen uses a combination of natural elements from Rustic Organic with the colors of Gustavian Style.

This light and airy bedroom has some of the sparkle of Gustavian along with natural wood and
simple lines of Rustic Organic.
