This Wednesday I will be graduating from Randolph Community College with my Associates of Arts in Interior Design!  It has been an exhausting but exciting 2 1/2 years to get here!  I have learned a lot and met a lot of wonderful people.  Without the support of my family and friends I don't think I could have made it - but I did with their help.

My internships with Lee Ann Burkhart Interiors and Frameworks Gallery & Frame Design have helped me tremendously!  I enjoyed every minute of everything we did!

Many have asked what I am going to do next?  Well, that waits to be seen.  I hope to continue to be at King Tire part-time as well as working in the design field part-time.    Only God know the plan for me right now, but I am sure by following Him it will be perfect!

Bermuda Beckoning

The Bermuda Beckoning project is completed!  It will be a warm and inviting space for Mr. & Mrs. Collins to spend their retirement as they welcome guests into their home.
The floorplan is open, light and airy in the public spaces and more private in the bedrooms and baths.

The living room features the colors of Bermuda.  Coral, turquoise and gold along with natural woods create a warm, tropical environment to relax and entertain.

The master bedroom is a calm and cooling suite that will be relaxing for the homeowners to spend time in at the end of the day.
The guest bedroom is a lively space full of tropical hues.  It will be comfortable for all the visitors they plan to have.

Guest Retreat

The guest bedroom in Bermuda is a fun space that will remind guest that they are on vacation in a tropical space.  The colors are bright and cheerful with aqua, orange, hot pink and white.  These fabrics will be used through out the space.

The rendered perspective shows how it will all come together.  There will be a comfortable bed, easy chair, desk and chair and storage for the guests to use.

Bermuda Bedroom & Closets

The Collins' requested a calm, spa-like retreat for their master suite in Bermuda.  I have chosen a color scheme of blues, greens and aquas to created this soothing space.

Since it is a bedroom, there are lots of soft fabrics to show this color scheme.

They would also like custom closets that maximize the small footprint they have.  Mrs. Collins' closet will feature whitewashed wood and brass fixtures.  There is plenty of hanging, closed and open storage for all her needs.

Her Closet Inspiration
Mr. Collins doesn't have as much long storage but has plenty of shirt and pant storage on this spiral rack that spins for ease of access.  His is made of dark wood with stainless features.

Field Trip

Tuesday we went to Durham and Raleigh on a field trip.  In Durham we toured Spoonflower.  This is a start up that prints custom fabrics, wallpaper and wrapping paper.  It is a simple concept that has evolved into a thriving business.

The customer simply goes to the website, uploads and image, picks the fabric or paper, decides on the size and repeat and they print it.  There is no minimum or maximum order so you can get exactly what you want!

We also toured part of the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh.  It in itself is a beautiful piece of architecture that is then filled with beautiful and thought provoking pieces of artwork.

There were many colorful, abstract paintings that caught my eye.  On the left is Station (577-2) by Gerhard Richter.  It is an oil on canvas that was made in 1985.  On the right is Berkeley No. 8 painted in 1954 by Richard Diebenkorn.

A more subdued, but very beautiful abstract painting is Golden Dawn by Richard Pousette-Dart in 1952.  It says it "visualizes the ascension of a skeletal figure, its form dissolving before our eyes, absorbed in the light."

Always close to my heart are the art pieces about dance.  The top sculpture is entitled Blue Dancer.  It was created by Alexander Archipenko between 1913 and 1918 but not cast until after 1961.

The last painting is Panama Dancers by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.  It is an oil on canvas finished in 1911.

The museum has many different sections with a lot of diverse types of artwork.  I could easily spend much more time discovering all they have to offer.

Elevations from Healing Waters Spa

The elevation of the main wall in the lobby of the spa shows many features.  The focal point is a custom made water wall with the logo created in mosaic tile.  The transaction counter is made from reclaimed doors.  It has a glass front and shelves that can be used for retail display and storage.  On the back wall is plenty of storage in both lateral filing cabinets and a lockable metal cabinet.

The kitchen in the residence is adequately equipped, functional and beautiful.  Custom cabinets afford much storage along the back wall as well as in a large island with a lowered baking station.  Stainless steel appliances feature a French door oven, microwave, downdraft gas stove and dishwasher drawers.  The natural marble backsplash has been installed in a herringbone pattern to create more interest and texture.  Tucked into a closet is also a stacked washer and dryer that can be hidden.  Two glass and iron pendant lights will illuminate the island while recessed lights will provide general lighting.

Spa Perspectives

The spa has come to life - on paper at least.  This perspective is from the pool area looking through the rain glass wall to the exercise area, rest area and farther off into one of the massage rooms.  Cool, calming colors are used to keep it fresh and soothing.  The pops of color are representative of the environment in which the spa is located.

The great room of the residence features warm and soothing colors to be a relaxing space for the doctor and his wife.  Natural materials bring the outside in as well as being more eco-friendly.  Local artisans and material were used whenever possible to create this space.
