Spa Design

I have also been working on the Healing Waters Spa and residence in Lake Lure, NC.  The owners are purchasing an empty space to house both their home and spa.  I was challenged with making all their wishes fit into this empty shell.  I believe I have created a space that will be welcoming to both their patients and themselves.
As you enter the Spa you are welcomed into the lobby with a small retail space, waiting area, room for the Receptionist to work and a bookkeeper's office.  Farther on you continue on to the two massage rooms, the consultation office and the restrooms.  To the left is the open exercise area that is separated from the soothing pool by a curved glass wall.  The back left corner of the space houses the residence.  You can enter through a door on the side or through the back of the exercise area.  There is an open living/dining/kitchen area along with two bedrooms and one and a half baths.

The owners expressed an interest in using environmentally friendly products whenever possible.  This happens on the flooring throughout the interior.  The office spaces of the spa and the public area of the residence feature beautiful hand-scraped wood floors.  The exercise and pool area are covered by a resilient cork flooring.  The bathrooms feature natural slate.  The bedrooms have eco-friendly carpet made from recycled bottles.

The pool area is surrounded by a textured, tempered glass wall that looks like rain.  There are sliding glass doors on both sides to allow access.   The zero-edge pool is surrounded by a beautiful natural pebble border that can also be found on the waterfall wall that constantly recirculates water into the pool.  It can be entered through stairs on one end or the wheelchair lift on the other.

The exercise area is large enough for 20 people to do yoga at once with plenty of room for stair master machines and weights as well.  Storage for the yoga mats and other equipment is found on the back wall.  The yoga mat storage is also a colorful focal point of the wall.

The residence is a comfortable space that allows the owners to visit with family and friends.  It uses the same hardwood floors through out most of the area with carpet in the bedrooms for comfort.  The living room features a hand-braided rug made right here in North Carolina.  Much of the furniture is also made locally.
